The news that more than 60 percent of households in the UK get into arguments over wasting energy and money, or ‘wearning’, is a clear indication that energy is now in the consciousness of many more people.
A study (sponsored by a non-profit energy company, Ebico) has shown that the simple lights-on, lights-off discussion causes 40 percent of energy arguments and heating levels cause 27 percent—but the arguments get a lot more specific than that!
21 percent, for example, argued over boiling the kettle with more water than you need. And 78 percent of respondents said at least one energy waster lived in their home. Surprisingly only 23 percent blamed the other half. A modest 15 percent admitted that they were the biggest energy-waster in the household.
And the worst wearners were in Scotland.
