Following reports that the Carbon Reduction Commitment Energy Efficiency Scheme would draw in around 5,000 organisations for full participation, the Environment Agency has revised its figures down to around 3,000 to 4,000 organisations. This is because many businesses that qualify are owned by larger organisations with multiple businesses.
Early in September, the Environment Agency reported that only 1,698 of these organisations had registered for the scheme, with a combined energy use of around 40,000,000MWh. Those that fail to register by 30th September could face significant fines.
Beyond the deadline for registration, organisations will need to not only implement measures to improve energy efficiency but also be able to produce verified data to show what savings have been made.
