A recent report from the USC Marshall School of Business shows that subsidies for fossil fuels are 12 time those for green technologies, worldwide. This is given as a key reason for green technology not taking off as many had predicted.
The situation in the USA clearly illustrates the problem. The US government gives tens of billions of dollars in subsidies to oil companies every year, more than it spends on supporting green technologies. In parallel, oil companies spend considerably more money on lobbying Congress than the clean energy sector can afford.
