According to a report from the Mayday Network, businesses are increasingly looking at innovative approaches to sustainability beyond ‘just turning the computers off at night and increasing recycling rates’.
"One of the things we've noticed is that focus has shifted from only measuring and reporting carbon emissions to initiatives that are going to transform businesses — a shift away from a more doomsday type of thinking," says Katie Webber, Mayday's campaign director.
"Another key shift is that companies are also looking at developing sustainability skills in the workforce — not just the chief executive, but middle managers and face-to-face staff."
However, 76% of businesses can’t see a way of turning a profit without releasing any greenhouse gases and 62% said they had not been influenced by the recent wave of climate change scepticism in the media.
