In a bid to reduce the numbers of wind farm projects being denied planning permission, the government is to offer cash incentives to local councils. Currently, two-thirds of all such applications are failing.
This will be achieved by allowing local councils to keep the business rates generated by wind farms – which could be as much as £37,000 per annum even for a small wind farm. In addition, it is possible that wind farm developers will be required to make a contribution to local economies.
